Mail!!!!

I am excited to announce that my dear friend Allison Guy not only knows how to darn socks, but that she agreed to darn my holey socks for me. Today I got this package of fixed-up handknits (that I almost forgot I owned) in the mail. Thank you Allison!!!! I am happily wearing the pink/purple/green pair (centre-right) as I type.

PS: Allison is off to England tomorrow on business – happy travelling! Send me a postcard!

Two things. No, three

First, happy American Thanksgiving to all y'all.

Second, the kitten had her parts taken out on Monday, and I am happy to announce that she seems to be doing very well. Her spirits are up, she is chasing things round here and there as usual, her insides are staying inside her, everything is ok, as far as I can tell.

Third – and I know you're all impatient to hear this one – I did in fact turn the heel of my sister's first sock. Living Room was cancelled last night due to lack of quorum, so I was able to knit knit knit. We (i.e., the sock and I) are still on schedule! No pictorial evidence for you, you'll just have to take my word for it.

Another knitten update

Last weekend I started a pair of socks that will, I hope, be a Christmas present for my sister. Based on the projected December 24th finishing date (my family opens presents on Christmas Eve, a Scandinavian tradition), and assuming a constant speed of knitting, I have 3 weeks to complete each sock.
Breaking the timeline down further (grad school taught me that setting short-term, achievable goals is the only way to complete a large project in a timely fashion), and assuming that turning the heel is the approximate halfway point (the Harlot, for one, claims that it is at least the spiritual halfway point), I should have turned the heel of sockOne by next Wednesday.

I am about halfway to starting the heel now. What do you think: will I achieve my goal?

PS I have also started the Christmas dishcloths. Picture to follow once I've made more. There's so much Christmas knitting to do, I don't think I'll get much quilting done till the new year.

New York notes

Last weekend, we left for NYC so early that we saw the sunrise while in the Niagara region. I took hardly any other pictures while in New York (except on my cell phone); you can check out Felicity's Flickr site if you want some more visuals.

Also, this is the bag I made before going to New York.

It still needs a lining.
